I was pleased to hear recently that I was awarded 3rd place in the British Deer Society's 2013 photographic competition for the shot on the left. This was taken in Richmond Park in October 2012. Even though the animal shown is very small - some people may not even notice it at first - this is one of my favourite photographs from 2012. The photo shows a fallow deer crossing a ride through oak woods, shortly after dawn. Below are some more photographs from the day and a short explanation of how I made the image. Update, September 2014: A version of the photograph above was highly commended in the 2014 British Wildlife Photography Awards, and will appear in the BWPA exhibition and book! (Due to the BWPA's rules on what photo editing is allowed, the image used does not have the second deer cloned out: see below. Also, note that as the British Deer Society competition received less than 500 image entries, my photo being placed 3rd did not disqualify me from entering it in the BWPA competition.)
